Gustav Nyquist suspended six games for high sticking

On Wednesday, Feb. 15 the NHL announced that Detroit Red Wings winger Gustav Nyquist was suspended six games for high sticking Minnesota Wild defensemen, Jared Spurgeon.

The incident occurred on Feb. 12 in a game between the Wild and Red Wings. In the 2nd period of the game Spurgeon cross checked Nyquist in the back. Then Nyquist got up and high sticked Spurgeon in the face. Nyquist was given a 4 minute penalty for high sticking.

Nyquist has no history of being fined or any other dirty play. But that was an intentional. Look at the video. Nyquist gets up, looks at Spurgeon and hits him right in the face. A dangerous play with intent to injure, it should have been at least 10 games.
